Dental Coverage for Seniors in Alberta - Insurance Advice from Your Red Deer Dentists
For some, regular dental care may not be affordable. You may be eligible for free dental services in our Parkland Mall Dental Centre.
Dental emergencies can strike at any time and don’t discriminate based on age. Fortunately, Alberta Health provides premium-free dental coverage for seniors, their spouses or dependent partners, and dependents that are registered on the same account.
However, coverage does not extend to seniors who are traveling outside of the province or country. In this case, be sure to purchase travel insurance to cover any health and dental emergency related expenses.
Eligibility Requirements for Senior Dental Coverage
For dental insurance, Alberta Health will determine your eligibility based on your total income in the prior year. Seniors who qualify will be insured for some dental services including diagnostic services (such as exams and xrays), preventative services (such as cleanings and polishing), restorative services (fillings), and more, up to a maximum of $5000 every 5 years.
Services covered by dental insurance:
- Dentures (prosthodontics, full and partial basic dentures)
- Diagnostic services
- Extractions (simple and complicated)
- Professional dental cleaning
- Root canals (endodontics) and root planning
Services not covered:

- Have lived in the province for a minimum of 3 months prior to applying.
