Finding a Children’s and Family Dentist for Emergencies in Red Deer
We are happy to welcome new dental patients, and you can also come to see us in an emergency.
Common Dental Emergencies
There are a variety of dental emergencies that can happen at night or over the weekend. Some of the more common dental emergencies include:
- Severe Toothache - Some toothaches are too painful to manage with over-the-counter medications. Painful toothaches could be a sign of infection or other serious dental problems and should be examined by a dentist as soon as possible. For children, severe toothaches could disrupt their sleep and they should be seen by a children’s dentist in Red Deer right away.
- Chipped or Broken Teeth - On the weekends, you or your children may engage in extracurricular activities and sports. During these activities, the chance for injury, including chipped or broken teeth, is heightened. A broken tooth can be saved if you see a dentist immediately. If the break is severe, you may require an emergency root canal and crown to repair the break.
- Knocked Out Tooth - Just like chipped or broken teeth, the loss of a permanent (adult) tooth also requires an emergency dental visit. The dentist may be able to save the tooth and replace it, but there is a tight timeframe in which that can be done. If your tooth has fallen out due to trauma, immediately place in a glass of milk or place it against your cheek and get to the dentist within an hour if possible. This will help to improve the chances of re-implanting the tooth if feasible.
- Lost Filling - When a filling cracks or pops out, it can expose sensitive nerves and tissue. This area can be extremely tender and even swell. It is important that you see a dentist as soon as you can to have the appropriate treatment, such as having the filling replaced. This will help prevent further pain, as well as damage to the tooth.
